Writer's Notebook Notes

After the winter break, we did a little review of a few writing techniques.  I didn't want them to forget all about the great things we learned!  We did a quick review and then added these notes to our writer's notebooks.  I am noticing a lot of students referring back to their notebooks when they need help!

We are also finishing our unit on using Angela Johnson as our Mentor.  We made an anchor chart of everything we learned from her and then added this notes page to our writer's notebook.

Next author mentor is- Donald Crews!  Can't wait to move on and learn from his writing!

Rubrics!

I use rubrics to grade almost everything in writing!  Here are the rubrics I use...

When we write, we plan our writing by starting with a circle map.

We use this flow map to organize our story:

We then move on to the final copy and publishing of our story.  I use this rubric to grade their published work.

I also use the following rubrics for our other writing grades:

 Punctuation Rubric

In writing, we recently covered strong leads, close-in endings, and adding dialogue.  I used these rubrics to grade just those elements of their story.

Wow!  That's a lot of rubrics!  I hope you can find something here that you can use!  (I also added all of these rubrics to the formtastic forms page!)
